Autumn Leaves
Painted leaves drifted on the breeze, departed visitors from skeletal trees.
Fallen in casual display; teased by swift winds who'd ensnared them as prey.
Discarded, they'd dropped to the floor – sharing earth with conkers and spores.
Evergreens, unmoved by their plight, hunkering down for the cold damp nights.
Dim misty mornings, decay all around; long gone their finery - lain rotten on the ground.
